Family papers, 1814-1903 (bulk 1814-1831).

The collection contains 10 letters written by Samuel Thing in Vincennes to his brother John in New Hampshire, 1814-1828, and a letter from his son Samuel in 1831 reporting his father's death. Topics include frontier life, the Panic of 1819, and politics surrounding John Quincy Adams and Andrew Jackson. Photocopies and transcripts are available; four letters in transcript not held in the original by the Indiana Historical Society are at the New Hampshire Historical Society.
